MISSION

The mission of the Jean Marc Paquette Foundation is clear and quite large in scope: to raise funds and organize fund-raising campaigns through annual events involving individuals or companies, mainly from legal and business communities, in aid of health-related projects and issues in society.

Administration expenses

The Foundation is proud of having always maintained its operating expenses under 4% of donations collected. It manages each project so that it is self-financing.

Annual activities

The Foundation wants to continue annually organizing the Juri Golf Classic, which attracts over 320 golfers and which makes it possible to raise funds now surpassing $60,000. It organizes gourmet dinners and fund-raising campaigns.

HISTORY

For health and hope

The Jean Marc Paquette Foundation was granted its status as a non-profit organization back in 1991. Its fund-raising activities and campaigns for humanitarian projects had started well before that, however, giving it the experience it needed to mobilize motivated and competent volunteer resources. In 1980, Société Paquette & associés, a firm of bailiffs, organized the first Juri Tennis tournament.

It was only natural for a firm of bailiffs to first approach the clientele that it dealt with in its business: the legal and business communities with whom it associated on a daily basis. It sought the support and cooperation of the Presidents of Bar associations (bâtonniers) and Quebec Ministers of Justice to give credence to the events being organized. It motivated the legal profession and business people to give back to society a bit of what they had received. And this is how the idea was born to come to the assistance of people suffering from sickness and disease.

In running the Foundation, the bailiff's firm of Paquette & Associés absorbed the administration and secretarial expenses, making it possible to give all the funds raised to recognized non-profit organizations, such as the Quebec Cancer Foundation and the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation. In return, the foundations issued official receipts for charitable donations.

Around 1985, the Juri Golf Classic started to compete with the Juri Tennis Classic, and the two types of events were organized alternately for a few years. The popularity of the new Classic eventually convinced the organizers to make it an annual event; in 2003, the Classic was already in its 15th edition.

The Jean Marc Paquette Foundation quickly perceived the wealth of sympathy for the whole social issue of breast cancer, the second leading cause of death among women in Quebec. And it decided to make this its special cause and to encourage its network to fight this widespread disease.

It understood the need for a concrete, identifiable project that would mobilize donors and allow them to see the progress achieved, through the funds raised. Very favourable circumstances, a combination of business networking and chance meetings of the right people at the right time managed to launch the major project: a mobile breast cancer screening unit!

Health... It's everyone's business.
